Oh goodness!

How long has it been since I updated this poor blog?! Basically forever, that's what! Well actually... I guess it hasn't been THAT long... I mean, the last post I made, I lived in the same house I live in now, so that's a good sign. I'm on top of things. I like to hear that.

So anyway, I thought I'd let you guys know what the finished painting and book cover looked like so you don't have that last Photoshop mistake burned in your brain as the visual of Rachel's masterpiece.

Here it is:

Worlds Unseen

So for those of you who don't know, Rachel wrote a fantasy trilogy entitled "Worlds Unseen." She's been wanting a cover for it for a while now, and I told her I'd have one for her by the end of the month... LAST month. Well, here's my excuse for not having had one done on time! All of my painting supplies were in the attic and I could NOT--for the LIFE of me--get the attic door open.

Anyhow, Jimmy somehow managed to get it open, so I had no excuse. I had started working on a cover in Photoshop (which was going VERY badly, btw... I'll see if I can dig it up to show you just HOW bad...), but I had wanted to do it in acrylics on canvas.

*goes on a search for the awful original*

Ah, here we are... please resist the urge to gag. I know it's hard, but I'm confident that you can muster the self-control.

Worlds Cover-sm

So now that THAT'S over with, here's the newer version...

It's still not done yet. I have to add some people riding some huge birds over the mountains, and then I have to add the clouds and stars to the sky. But we're close.

Wow, it's been a long time since I posted some updates in here! Well, let me tell you, it's NOT because I haven't had any projects to be posting about! Quite the opposite, really...

Anyhow, currently, I'm working on redesigning some superheroes for a client. They're brand new, never been introduced to the public, so I'm not allowed to say anything about them or post pictures yet, but basically, when they designed them (they're kind of cartoony, for kids--not like PEOPLE-superheroes), they didn't really take into account how they'd look in 3D. In fact, the way they are right now, they CAN'T really be in 3D. So it's MY job to draw these characters (there are five of them) from various angles so they can actually come to life and still look as close to the original sketches as possible. It is tough going, LET me tell you!!

Word to the wise--if you ever decide to design some superheros, make sure you have a sheet of character art featuring angles other than the 2D frontal view, because if you DON'T, there's a good chance you'll never be able to have that exact character as an inflatable. And that would just be devastating. Yes. Yes, it would.

Well! These have been some cuh-RAZY weeks, let me tell you!! We've been in the heat of one of our biggest parade seasons, so there's been a WHOLE lotta overtime...

One of my favorites from last week, though, was this:

Basically my only involvement in Larry was painting his facial hair.
